Ideal Room

The task challenges us to improve our rooms with money being no issue. The main issue with the space I constructed earlier is there is no room to add anything I would like to do such as having a space for tools and a place to entertain guest. With this brief set out I decided to create a new space in a backyard. I want it to be large enough to put some basic machinery, a bar, basic gym equipment and a front patio area with a tv and a large open grass area with enough room to play soccer, football etc.

Experimentation

With help from the book from sheet to form by Paul Jackson and being inspired by the work of Charles young, I decided to learn basic pleats, crumpling and other basic techniques.

 


Through this process of practice, I felt confident enough to take on the final model

Final Model

Overall I am happy with my final model. It archives all criteria I had set out to achieve and was a significant upgrade onto my current room where I do most of my work. I decided to use angular lines as it is a unique property of the medium I was using and wanted to explore it as much as I could. Some improvements I would like to make is to perfect the shape of the structure as it didn't warp into the exact shape I wanted. I would also like to improve my ability to scale as the furniture do not match the rest of the structure.

What Did We Do?

Nick our tutor group leader introduced us to our site. It was the main quad for the lower campus so it felt very daunting for us at initially however after familiarising ourselves we were excited to take the task head-on. We split up our sites into sections and sketched it out to be used in our week 4 assessment.

What Did We Do?

Despite the heavy rain my group and I decided to head to our site and map it out. Due to the class running a little late we had very little time to measure the site up so we decided to count it out with our footsteps. This is less accurate than measuring it out with a tape measure however it was good enough for what we needed and is much quicker than using the tape measure. 

This is the map that we came up with. This will be used to create the map for our assessment.

What Did We Do?

Part 1

On our first day in the course, we were put in tutor groups. In these groups, we asked to draw blind contours of chairs. we also drew the negative space of the chairs and were asked to draw them without looking down at the page. I am not confident at drawing and found these extremely difficult however I gave it my best go even if they were not the best.

 

 

Part 2

After this was compleated we were tasked to sketch some plants that were given to us on the table. After this, we had some time left over and have us a chance to sketch whatever we wanted. Overall these activities helped to loosen up when sketching and made me better at it in general.

Today we learnt how to set up a diagram and the importance of fonts. We also sketched plan sections, elevations and scales.
